Two Days Digital Painting Workshop

Arena Animation, Collegepara recently organized a two days digital painting workshop in Siliguri for its students from 25th February to 26th February. The sessions covered topics about toon me, character design and digital painting techniques. Mr. Ashish Mishra took all the sessions. A total of 30 students attended the workshop. The workshop concluded on the second day with an individual Participation Certificate for all the students. Below is a brief detail about the workshop.

What is Digital Painting?

Digital painting is the process of painting on a tablet and digitally creating illustrations on a computer. This is done with paint software that uses brushes, just like traditional painting.

Many artists turn to digital painting because it is cheaper in the long term (fewer materials) and is a necessity in the world of animation, illustration and 2D game art.

Moreover, it is now much easier to paint digitally, because computers are so much faster and more powerful. That means they can process very fast brush strokes, more accurate pressure sensitivity and larger files without any delay time.

Day One Of The Workshop

The first day of the workshop covered a very interesting topic known as toon me. Toon me is a part of digital painting where one’s face is converted partially in a cartoon. This is done using photoshop or similar softwares. There’s a slight difference between mainstream digital painting and toon me. A digital painting of someone’s face is his true replica, on the other hand, toon me carries some imperfections as we see in cartoons. You can have a glimpse of toon me in making below.

Second Day Of The Workshop

The second day of the workshop was all about character design and digitally painting the character.

Character design is the key to bringing the public into contact with the character on the screen. To engage viewers, characters must change their emotions and show their unique personalities every time.

In other words, they must be able to express a wide range of emotions. That is why designing a character means that you know what that character will look like in a number of different situations – happy, sad, angry etc . and in a variety of different positions – looking forward, sleeping, running, sitting etc.
